San Mauro Castelverde is a town situated high in the Madonie Park, 1000 metres asl; its medieval urban plan has remained unchanged and the town itself has a rich architectural and artistic heritage. The remains of the Arabian Castle, the XVII century church of San Mauro Abate, the Mother church of San Giorgio with its impressive XV century bell tower, the monastic complex of Santa Maria della Catena and the Convent of the Capuchins with the church of the Addolorata are well worth a visit.
As far as the naturalistic heritage is concerned, we suggest an excursion to the Pollina river gorges.
